Skoda is preparing to unveil its new flagship electric SUV, the Skoda Peaq, on June 23, 2026. Built on the Volkswagen Group’s latest MEB+ platform, the all-electric SUV has undergone one of the brand’s most comprehensive development programs to date, covering more than 1.5 million kilometers of testing across three continents.
The extensive validation process combined real-world testing with advanced virtual simulations, helping engineers refine everything from powertrain performance and battery efficiency to comfort, durability, and safety systems before the vehicle reaches customers.
Tested in Some of the World’s Harshest Conditions
To ensure the Peaq can perform reliably in a wide range of environments, Skoda engineers subjected prototypes to extreme weather and road conditions in Europe, Africa, and North America.
According to Johannes Neft, Skoda Auto Board Member for Technical Development, the vehicle was evaluated both in laboratory environments and in real-world scenarios ranging from scorching desert heat to Arctic temperatures as low as -40°C.
Cold-weather testing took place well above the Arctic Circle, where engineers assessed rapid windshield defrosting, cabin heating performance, and vehicle behavior on snow and ice. These tests focused on ensuring optimal traction, stability, and dependable operation of the SUV’s safety systems in severe winter conditions.
At the opposite end of the temperature spectrum, Peaq prototypes spent 12 months exposed to intense desert sunlight to evaluate paint durability and the long-term resilience of exterior plastic components. Engineers also examined how the SUV’s braking, chassis, cooling, and climate-control systems performed under sustained extreme heat.
Thousands of kilometers on dusty gravel roads further tested cabin sealing and the durability of body components against flying debris and stone impacts. Even under desert conditions, the air-conditioning system demonstrated rapid cooling performance.
Virtual Development Accelerated Testing
Alongside physical testing, Skoda relied heavily on advanced virtual development tools powered by high-performance computing systems.
Digital simulations allowed engineers to recreate a broad range of driving scenarios and environmental conditions, helping optimize vehicle systems more efficiently while complementing real-world validation efforts. The combination of virtual and physical testing enabled development teams to closely monitor vehicle performance and quality throughout the process.
MEB+ Platform Brings More Range and Efficiency
The Skoda Peaq will serve as the Czech automaker’s new flagship model and showcase the latest evolution of the Volkswagen Group’s dedicated EV architecture.
Built on the MEB+ platform, the SUV will feature next-generation electric motors and updated battery technology capable of delivering a driving range of more than 600 kilometers. The model will also be equipped with an adaptive DCC chassis designed to balance comfort and dynamic handling.
As a family-focused SUV, the Peaq will offer seating for up to seven passengers while emphasizing refinement, low cabin noise levels, and long-distance comfort.
New Sonos Audio System and Practical Features
One of the highlights of the new flagship EV is a newly developed Sonos premium sound system, designed to take advantage of the vehicle’s quiet electric driving experience.
Skoda is also introducing several new Simply Clever solutions, including windshield wipers with integrated washers, a feature appearing for the first time in a Skoda production model.
These additions reinforce the brand’s focus on combining everyday practicality with advanced technology in its growing electric vehicle lineup.
World Premiere Set for June 23
The all-new Skoda Peaq will make its global debut on June 23, 2026. The unveiling event will be streamed through Skoda’s official communication channels, with the livestream scheduled to begin at 18:25.
With more than 1.5 million kilometers of testing completed and the latest MEB+ technology under the skin, the Peaq is positioned to become one of Skoda’s most important electric vehicles yet, serving as the brand’s flagship offering in the rapidly expanding electric SUV segment.
