2026 Peugeot E-208 GTi Debuts as the Brand’s First Electric GTi with 281 HP

Peugeot has officially unveiled the production version of the new E-208 GTi, marking a major milestone in the brand’s performance heritage. Revealed during the company’s celebrations at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the all-electric hot hatch stays remarkably faithful to the concept shown a year ago and introduces a new chapter for the legendary GTi badge.

As Peugeot commemorates 100 years since its first appearance at Le Mans, the French automaker is bringing the GTi formula into the electric era. Developed jointly by Peugeot Design and Peugeot Sport, the new E-208 GTi combines impressive performance, everyday practicality, and unmistakable GTi character.

The Peugeot E-208 GTi is now available to order in the French market, starting from €42,900 including taxes.

Peugeot Sport Brings Motorsport Expertise to the Road

The E-208 GTi was engineered by Peugeot Sport, the division responsible for the brand’s World Endurance Championship program and the Peugeot 9X8 Hypercar. Engineers applied motorsport-derived technologies to create what Peugeot claims is the most powerful and best-performing model in the B-segment.

At the heart of the E-208 GTi is the M4+ electric motor, producing 281 horsepower and 345 Nm of torque. Manufactured in Trémery, France, the motor benefits from advanced control software and electronic management systems derived directly from Peugeot’s racing experience.

The result is exceptional performance. The E-208 GTi accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.5 seconds, making it one of the quickest electric hot hatches in its class. Peugeot also quotes a 1,000-meter standing start time of 25.8 seconds and a top speed electronically limited to 180 km/h (112 mph).

Optimized Battery Cooling for Consistent Performance

Unlike some performance EVs that reduce power during demanding driving conditions, the E-208 GTi has been engineered to deliver sustained performance.

The vehicle uses the same 54-kWh battery pack found in the standard E-208, with 51 kWh of usable capacity. However, Peugeot Sport developed a dedicated thermal management system inspired by motorsport applications. The optimized cooling strategy allows the battery to maintain peak performance during spirited driving, including extended mountain runs or track sessions.

Depending on tire selection, the E-208 GTi offers a WLTP driving range of up to 375 kilometers (233 miles) when equipped with Hankook Ventus S1 Evo3 tires. Models fitted with standard Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires deliver a WLTP range of up to 352 kilometers (219 miles).

Chassis Upgrades Focus on Driving Enjoyment

True to the GTi tradition, Peugeot has paid particular attention to handling and driver engagement.

The suspension has been lowered by 25 mm, while the front and rear tracks have been widened by 56 mm and 28 mm respectively. New 18-inch wheels wrapped in 215/40 R18 tires contribute to improved grip and a more aggressive stance.

Additional chassis enhancements include:

– A mechanical limited-slip differential integrated into the reduction gearbox.
– A larger rear anti-roll bar for improved cornering balance.
– Exclusive dampers with hydraulic bump stops.
– Performance-oriented steering calibration.
– 355-mm front brake discs paired with four-piston calipers.

A dedicated Sport mode loosens electronic stability control intervention and disables regenerative braking, allowing drivers to focus entirely on vehicle dynamics.

Distinctive GTi Styling with Modern Flair

While the standard E-208 already features one of the most attractive designs in the small EV segment, the GTi version introduces several visual upgrades inspired by iconic Peugeot performance models.

The lowered ride height and wider track immediately signal the car’s sporting intentions. New 18-inch perforated wheels pay homage to the legendary wheels fitted to the original Peugeot 205 GTi, while redesigned wheel arches, a front spoiler, and a gloss-black rear diffuser enhance the car’s athletic appearance.

Red accents, a traditional GTi hallmark, appear throughout the exterior, including the grille, badges, wheel arches, brake calipers, and rear spoiler.

Buyers will be able to choose from seven exterior colors:

– Okenite White
– Elixir Red
– Miramar Blue
– Perla Nera Black
– Artense Grey
– Selenium Grey
– Agueda Yellow

Driver-Focused Interior

Inside, Peugeot has created a cockpit that celebrates the GTi heritage while embracing modern technology.

Red carpeting, seatbelts, and contrast stitching evoke the classic 205 GTi. Specially designed front sport seats feature integrated headrests and styling details inspired by earlier GTi models.

The compact steering wheel receives perforated leather and Alcantara trim, along with a dedicated GTi badge. Drivers also benefit from GTi-specific digital displays, performance monitoring screens, customizable ambient lighting, and an optional sound enhancement system linked to motor speed.

Technology, Charging and Everyday Practicality

Despite its performance credentials, the E-208 GTi remains a practical daily driver.

Standard equipment includes Peugeot i-Connect Advanced infotainment, connected TomTom navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and voice control functionality.

Charging performance remains competitive. Using a 100-kW DC fast charger, the battery can recharge from 20% to 80% in less than 30 minutes. A 7.4-kW wallbox can fully recharge the battery in approximately 4 hours and 40 minutes.

Additional EV-focused features include vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, smart route planning, remote pre-conditioning, and charging management through the MyPeugeot app.

Peugeot Electric Promise

The E-208 GTi is backed by Peugeot’s extensive electric vehicle coverage package. Customers receive up to eight years or 160,000 kilometers of vehicle warranty coverage through Peugeot Care, alongside an eight-year/160,000-kilometer battery warranty.

Owners also gain access to the Free2Move Charge network, which provides connectivity to nearly one million public charging points across Europe.

A New Era for the GTi Badge

With the E-208 GTi, Peugeot has successfully translated four decades of GTi heritage into the electric age. Combining 281 horsepower, sharp handling, motorsport-derived engineering, and everyday usability, the new model delivers a compelling alternative to traditional hot hatches.

As the first fully electric GTi, the E-208 GTi represents more than just another performance EV—it signals the future direction of one of Europe’s most celebrated performance badges.
