Isuzu D-Max EV Debuts in UK as First Electric Pickup with 3.5T Towing

The Isuzu D-Max EV has made its right-hand-drive debut at the Commercial Vehicle Show 2026, marking a significant step forward for electric commercial vehicles in the UK.

Positioned as a true work-ready pickup, the fully electric D-Max combines zero-emissions driving with the rugged capability expected from a traditional diesel-powered truck.

A New Benchmark for Electric Pickups

The D-Max EV stands out as the first fully electric pickup in the UK market capable of delivering over 1 tonne of payload, 3.5 tonnes of towing capacity, and permanent four-wheel drive. This combination places it firmly in the commercial vehicle segment, targeting fleet operators and professionals transitioning toward electrification.

Built on a strengthened ladder chassis derived from the latest D-Max generation, the electric version retains its reputation for durability while introducing a refined driving experience. A newly developed De-Dion semi-independent rear suspension improves ride comfort and reduces cabin noise and vibration, even under load.

Dual-Motor Power and Practical Range

At the core of the D-Max EV is a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery paired with dual electric motors—one on each axle—for full-time four-wheel drive. The system produces a combined 149.3 kW and 347.6 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–62 mph sprint in 10.1 seconds and a top speed exceeding 80 mph.

The pickup offers a WLTP combined range of up to 163 miles, extending to nearly 224 miles in urban conditions. While not class-leading in range, the focus remains on reliability and capability for demanding work environments.

Drivers can select from four regenerative braking levels, while an Eco mode helps maximize efficiency during longer journeys.

Charging and Usability

Charging options are tailored for both depot and public infrastructure use. AC charging at up to 11 kW allows a full recharge in approximately six hours, while DC fast charging at 50 kW can replenish the battery from 20% to 80% in about one hour.

This flexibility supports fleet operations that require predictable downtime and efficient turnaround between jobs.

Built for Tough Conditions

True to its heritage, the D-Max EV retains strong off-road credentials. Rough Terrain Mode enhances traction in challenging environments, while 210 mm of ground clearance and a wading depth of 600 mm ensure capability across varied terrains.

Approach and departure angles of 30.5 and 24.2 degrees respectively further underline its off-road readiness, making it suitable for construction, utilities, and rural applications.

Interior and Equipment

The electric pickup is available in Extended Cab and Double Cab configurations, with eDL40 and eV-Cross trims. Both versions feature a mix of practicality and comfort, including heated seats, dual-zone climate control, and a 7-inch driver display.

Additional standard equipment includes parking sensors, Bi-LED headlights, and Isuzu’s Rough Terrain Mode. Higher trims offer premium finishes and color options, enhancing appeal for both commercial and lifestyle users.

Tested in Real-World Conditions

Before its UK debut, the D-Max EV underwent extensive trials in partnership with National Grid Electricity Distribution.

Testing included towing and winching in demanding environments, ensuring the vehicle meets the needs of professional users.

Warranty and Availability

The D-Max EV is backed by a five-year, 125,000-mile vehicle warranty and an eight-year battery warranty. Deliveries in the UK are scheduled to begin in May 2026.

A Strategic Step Toward Electrification

With the launch of the D-Max EV, Isuzu enters the electric pickup segment with a clear focus on utility rather than lifestyle. By maintaining core capabilities such as towing, payload, and off-road performance, the model addresses one of the key barriers to EV adoption among commercial operators.

As the market for electric commercial vehicles expands, the D-Max EV positions itself as a practical, no-compromise solution for businesses seeking to reduce emissions without sacrificing performance.
