Michelin Launches Primacy 5 Energy and Pilot Sport 5 Energy Tyres for EV Era

With summer tyres accounting for nearly 80% of global annual tyre sales, Michelin is doubling down on this critical segment with the introduction of two new ranges: MICHELIN Primacy 5 Energy and MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 Energy.

Designed to meet the evolving demands of electrified mobility, both tyre lines aim to deliver a balanced combination of efficiency, durability, grip, and performance—key factors for today’s electric and hybrid vehicles.

Built for the Electrification Shift

As automakers accelerate their transition toward electric vehicles, tyre performance has become more crucial than ever. EVs demand low rolling resistance to maximize range, while still requiring strong grip, long lifespan, and precise handling.

Michelin’s latest offerings address these needs head-on. Both the Primacy 5 Energy and Pilot Sport 5 Energy are engineered to increase EV driving range, reduce fuel consumption in combustion vehicles, maintain high safety and durability standards and deliver consistent performance across varying conditions.

Notably, both tyre ranges have already received approvals from leading global car manufacturers, underlining their readiness for modern vehicle platforms.

MICHELIN Primacy 5 Energy: Efficiency Meets Longevity

Positioned as a premium touring tyre, the Primacy 5 Energy stands out for its balance of safety, efficiency, and long-lasting performance.

Key Highlights:

– Top-tier wet braking: Rated A, with up to 8% shorter braking distances compared to its predecessor—even when worn
– Best-in-class longevity: Delivers up to 40% longer lifespan than competitors, thanks to Energy Passive 2.0 Technology
– Outstanding efficiency: up to 6% lower fuel consumption, up to 10% increased EV range, up to 70 km (43 miles) extra range per charge,
– Lower emissions & costs: Reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 327 kg and saves up to €169 in fuel over its lifespan
– Quiet ride: A-rated for external noise, significantly improving cabin comfort

The Primacy 5 Energy is available in 33 sizes ranging from 16 to 19 inches, making it suitable for a wide variety of passenger vehicles, including EVs.

MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 Energy: Performance Without Compromise

For drivers seeking sportier dynamics, the Pilot Sport 5 Energy blends motorsport-derived technology with energy efficiency

Key Highlights:

– Precision handling & grip: Combines Dynamic Response Technology with a new Adaptive Grip Compound for excellent control in wet and dry conditions
– Improved longevity: MaxTouch Technology ensures even wear, addressing a common issue in high-performance tyres
– Energy-efficient performance: Achieves an A rating for rolling resistance—rare in the sport tyre category
– Proven endurance: Demonstrated exceptional durability during the Mercedes-AMG GT Concept XX world record run, sustaining 300 km/h for nearly eight days

The Pilot Sport 5 Energy is available in 19 sizes from 19 to 21 inches, targeting performance-oriented vehicles and premium EVs.

Supporting the Future of Mobility

Michelin’s latest tyre innovations reflect a broader shift in the automotive industry, where efficiency and sustainability must go hand in hand with performance.

By eliminating the traditional trade-offs between grip, durability, and energy efficiency, the Primacy 5 Energy and Pilot Sport 5 Energy position themselves as compelling solutions for both manufacturers and consumers navigating the transition to electrified mobility.
