BMW is making life easier for its electric vehicle drivers by opening up access to the Tesla Supercharger network across the United States.
BMW EV owners can plug into more than 2,000 Tesla sites and over 25,000 Superchargers, marking a major step toward the industry-wide shift to the North American Charging Standard (NACS). This new access joins BMW’s existing partnerships, expanding charging convenience like never before.
With Superchargers now in the mix, BMW drivers can tap into roughly 180,000 public charging points across North America. This broader network includes providers such as IONNA, Electrify America, ChargePoint, and EVgo. All compatible stations appear directly in the vehicle’s navigation system and the My BMW app via Shell Recharge, with seamless session activation through Plug & Charge at supported locations.
BMW EVs can connect to Tesla chargers in two ways:
– NACS-only Superchargers: Current-generation models like the i4, i5, i7, and iX will need a CCS-to-NACS DC adapter. BMW-approved adapters will be available as accessories starting in the second quarter of 2026.
– Superchargers with Magic Dock: These include a built-in adapter, so no extra hardware is needed. Even older models—such as the BMW i3—can charge here without issue.
Looking ahead, BMW plans to integrate native NACS ports into new vehicles starting in 2026, beginning with the i5 M60 and followed by future models, including the next-generation iX3.
For eligible vehicles, Plug & Charge is now active at Tesla Superchargers, streamlining the entire process. Pricing uses Tesla’s standard non-Tesla rate structure, while payments are handled through the customer’s Shell Recharge account in the My BMW app. Drivers just need to ensure Plug & Charge is switched on and their charging contracts are properly set up.
