New BMW i4 M60 xDrive brings more power than a M4 CS

Summer 2025 is set to bring innovations in electric drive technology and digitalisation as well as new standard and optional equipment features that will make the current BMW model range even more attractive.

BMW is rolling out significant updates to its i4 electric vehicle lineup this year, focusing on increased power and extended driving range.

The biggest news is the introduction of the i4 M60 xDrive, which replaces the previous i4 M50 as the flagship model. This new version boasts two electric motors, one on each axle, delivering a combined output of 593 horsepower. That’s a substantial 56 hp increase over the outgoing M50 and even 50 hp more than the gas-powered BMW M4 CS, which is the most powerful street-legal 4 Series.

The i4 M60 can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.7 seconds. It also offers an impressive 269 miles (433 km) of driving range on a full charge, based on the WLTP cycle.

It’s not just about the high-performance model. The entry-level, rear-wheel-drive i4 eDrive35 and eDrive40 models are also getting upgrades. They now feature new silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor components, which improve energy consumption by about 4.5%. This translates to an extended driving range of approximately 14 miles (22 km).

Specifically, the i4 eDrive35 now has a WLTP driving range of 266 miles, while the i4 eDrive40 can travel an impressive 317 miles (510 km) on a single charge.

BMW recently increased the warranty coverage for the high-voltage batteries across all its EVs. The new warranty applies up to a vehicle age of eight years or a maximum mileage of 100,000 miles (160,000 km), whichever comes first. Should a high-voltage battery’s capacity drop below 70 percent during the warranty period, BMW will remedy this loss of capacity at no extra cost to the customer. This applies to all new and used all-electric BMW models from 1 April 2025.

Production of the updated BMW i4 is set to begin in July, with deliveries expected to start shortly thereafter.
