Volkswagen Golf GTE and Golf eHybrid now available to order

The new Golf GTE and the new Golf eHybrid offer new plug-in hybrid technology and a host of enhanced features. With an output of 200 kW (272 PS), the performance drive of the new Golf GTE even surpasses the level of the new Golf GTI thanks to its additional electric power.

The Golf eHybrid is designed for maximum comfort and delivers an output of 150 kW (204 PS). The all-electric range of the GTE has been increased to up to 131 kilometres. With the eHybrid, it is even possible to achieve a range of 143 kilometres (combined). In addition, both models come with a DC quick-charging function.

On the outside, the distinguishing features of the two compact models include their updated front with LED Plus headlights, as well as redesigned LED tail light clusters and the standard-equipment 17-inch Richmond alloy wheels. A modern infotainment system and numerous driver assist systems increase comfort.

The comfortable Golf eHybrid can now be configured and ordered at prices starting from 44,240 euros. The dynamic Golf GTE is available from 46,745 euros.

New powertrain range

The new plug-in hybrid drives in the Golf offer more power, an electric range of significantly above 100 kilometres as well as a DC quick-charging function. The newly developed second generation of the Volkswagen plug-in hybrid drive delivers a system output of 150 kW (204 PS) in the Golf eHybrid. The electric range is up to 143 kilometres (combined).

As the even sportier variant, the Golf GTE produces a system power of 200 kW (272 PS) and has an electric range of up to 131 kilometres (combined). Power is transferred to the front wheels via a six-speed direct shift gearbox specially designed for the plug-in hybrid drive systems. The new plug-in hybrid drive is extremely efficient thanks to the changeover to a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine (1.5 TSI evo2) with variable turbocharger geometry (VTG) plus highly efficient TSI-evo combustion process and a new 19.7 kWh battery (net / predecessor: 10.6 kWh). In addition, both variants offer great driving pleasure, as they already generate high torque from a standstill thanks to the electric motor.

Electric vehicles for everyday life

In many cases, the significantly increased electric ranges and quick charging mean that both Golf models can be used as purely electric vehicles in everyday life. At the same time, they impress on long journeys in hybrid mode with very high combined ranges of up to 1,000 kilometres. The battery can now be charged at a home wall box and other AC charging points with up to 11 kW (previously 3.6 kW). In addition, the Golf eHybrid and Golf GTE models can be charged at DC quick-charging stations with up to 50 kW capacity.

Sporty and comfortable interior

The Golf GTE underlines its sportiness with premium sport seats in the legendary check pattern, a leather multi-function sports steering wheel, and high-quality decorative trim for the dash panel and front door panels. The Golf eHybrid is always offered in the elegant Style equipment version and is recommended as a particularly comfort-oriented plug-in hybrid model. In addition to sports comfort seats with ArtVelours covers, numerous options for individualisation are provided by 14-way electric adjustment for the driver’s seat and 30-colour background lighting.

The Golf GTE and Golf eHybrid come as standard with the Digital Cockpit Pro infotainment system and the Discover Media navigation system, which can be operated via the free-standing touch display (diagonal: 32.8 cm/12.9 inches). The comprehensive package of driver assist systems includes Travel Assist for assisted driving up to 210 km/h, Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist), lane keeping system (Lane Assist) and a recuperation function.

Light design and colours – many new exterior features

On the outside, the LED headlights, LED tail light clusters and the front bumper are new. The enhanced Golf models can be recognised by these modern elements. The LED headlights now have straighter lines, are visually more striking and narrow significantly towards the inside. As an alternative to the standard LED headlights, performance headlights will be available in a first optional configuration level. In this case, the front has an illuminated Volkswagen badge – as a first in Europe – in addition to a horizontal LED strip in the radiator grille. The GTE also has a blue trim strip below the bonnet as a distinguishing feature.

The eleven paint finishes are now supplemented by four new colours: Crystal Ice Blue metallic, Anemone Blue metallic, Oyster Silver metallic and Grenadilla Black metallic. A new feature for the Golf GTE is the black-painted roof available as an option. At the rear, the Golf GTE has elegant chrome trim above the diffuser.
