Ford EV owners benefit from further charge network expansion

The number of chargers available to electric vehicle drivers on the company’s BlueOval network has increased again following the addition of GeniePoint.

Ford’s new partnership with EQUANS, who own and operate GeniePoint, takes the Ford network to over 16,000 UK charge points, and more than 300,000 across Europe.

The continued expansion of the BlueOval charging network, accessible via the FordPass app, heralds this year’s arrival of the performance version of the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E and acclaimed E-Transit van.

The Mach-E GT boasts more torque than any other production Ford road vehicle in Europe, sprinting from 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds, proving the no-compromise experience of Ford electric vehicles.

The award-winning E-Transit sets a new benchmark for EV productivity, value and ownership with a 196-mile range van, a forecast 40 per cent reduction in running costs and Ford Pro back-up on charging, service, telematics and fleet intelligence.

Other BlueOval charge network users include owners of the regular all-electric Mustang Mach-E introduced last year, plus Ford Kuga car and Transit/Tourneo Custom van plug-in hybrids.

GeniePoint, the third largest rapid charging network in the UK, has more than 500 rapid charge points, which can now be located, monitored and paid for within the FordPass app.  Last year pulse, the biggest public charging network in the UK, was also integrated.

Tim Nicklin, Ford’s electrification manager, said:  “The new Mustang Mach-E, and our plug-in hybrids, are propelling Ford at pace towards electrified engines accounting for more than half of our car sales by the end of 2022.

“Key to this roll-out is providing Ford customers with a supporting infrastructure and now, together with GeniePoint, we continue our commitment to match more electrified vehicles with enough locations to charge them.”

Dee Humphries, managing director of EQUANS’ EV Solutions business, said: ‘We’re delighted to be linking with Ford to provide their drivers with access to our rapidly growing GeniePoint network. This partnership reflects our focus at GeniePoint, which to make it as easy as possible for EV drivers can get a charge whenever and wherever they need it.”

Mustang Mach-E owners enjoy five year’s free access to the BlueOval charge network and one year’s discounted IONITY and BP pulse energy costs in the UK versus the operators’ pay as you go prices.
