BYD to Unveil Next All-electric Transit Bus and Motor Coach

BYD will unveil two new all-electric, zero-emission vehicles – a new transit bus and a new motor coach – at BusCon 2019, held at the Indianapolis Convention Center in Indianapolis Sept. 23-25.

BYD will display its K7M-ER transit bus and the C9M Motor Coach at BusCon, dubbed the largest bus show in North America. The K7M-ER will also be displayed at the Colorado Association of Transit Agencies (CASTA) conference at the Keystone Conference Center in Keystone, Colorado from Sept. 24-27.

“We listened to what our customers want in developing these two models,” said Bobby Hill, Vice President of BYD Coach & Bus. “We have the broadest range in the industry and are able to offer solutions to fit the needs of our customers.”

In designing the K7M-ER, BYD listened to its transit agency customers and made the vehicle 101.6 inches wide, allowing for the placement of a wheelchair ramp at the front of the bus rather than toward the back.

The K7M-ER has a range of up to 185 miles, 20 seats, and a charging time of 3.5 to 4 hours.

The C9M is 40-foot long motor coach, the first battery electric motor coach of its length in the industry. The C9M is an ideal commuter coach.

The C9M has a range of up to 200 miles and can be equipped to have 49 seats or 45 seats with a restroom. The C9M has a charging time of 4.5 to 5 hours.

BYD buses and coaches provide a zero-emission, quieter option for public and private customer concerned about the environment. BYD electric buses and coaches offer lower maintenance costs and lower the total cost of ownership compared to diesel or CNG.

BYD employs more than 750 workers at its Lancaster, Calif., Coach & Bus manufacturing plant. In all, BYD has more than 900 employees in the U.S. and has invested more than $250 million in North America.

All BYD buses sold to U.S. transit agencies exceed the Federal Transit Administration’s “Buy America” regulatory requirements.
