
Formula E championship leader Nelson Piquet Jr has signed a multi-year deal to remain with NEXTEV TCR in the all-electric racing series.
Piquet is on the brink of securing the first-ever championship for the team previously known as China Racing, which was established to race in A1GP and has also competed in Superleague Formula and FIA GT1.
Piquet holds a 17-point lead in the Formula E championship going into the double-header finale in London on June 27/28.
In a related news, ex-Formula 1 racer Sakon Yamamoto will drive for Amlin Aguri in the Formula E season finale in London.
The Japanese driver is standing in for Buenos Aires race winner Antonio Felix da Costa, who has a clashing DTM commitment for BMW at the Norisring that weekend.
Yamamoto, who raced for Super Aguri, Spyker and HRT in F1, has driven the Spark-Renault SRT_01E before. He tested the car at the Miami-Homestead track in the build up to the Miami ePrix as part of his current role as a TV analyst in Japan.
