Outlander PHEV Scoops ‘Environment Award’ In This Years’ Fleet World Honours

Outlander-PHEVThe all-new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was awarded the ‘Environment Award’ at this year’s Fleet World Honours in Pall Mall, London.

The Fleet World Honours are presented annually to those motor manufacturers, service companies and individuals who have, in the opinion of the judges, achieved the highest possible level of excellence in their sector.

The Fleet World Honours Awards are open to all motor manufacturers and the judging process combines the expert opinion of the Fleet World editorial team with the values provided by a number of leading leasing companies and fleet data providers.

The judging panel is chaired by Steve Moody, Editor of Fleet World, and includes John Kendall, Alex Grant, Natalie Wallis, Dan Gilkes and Ross Durkin from the Fleet World editorial team. Residual value, maintenance and reliability data is provided by ALD Automotive, LeasePlan and Arval. Market value data is provided by EurotaxGlass and CAP.

The combination of the Outlander’s electric motors and petrol engine give it a smooth, quiet, refined ride with an official fuel consumption figure of 148mpg. It only emits 44g/km CO2 which means for company car drivers a BIK rate of 5% and Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) of £0. Most significantly, Mitsubishi are not charging for the PHEV technology, with prices ranging from £28,249 to £34,999.

5% BIK means that a 40% tax paying company car driver will pay £665 in tax in the first year, that’s less than many people spend on coffee in the same period. And the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is not just great news for employees – employers can write down 100% of the vehicles’ value in the first 12 months, saving thousands of pounds.

Mitsubishi Contract Motoring has recently announced offering extremely competitive Contract Hire rentals for the all-new Outlander PHEV starting from just £195 per month and a commercial variant will also be available soon.

Fleet World Editor, Steve Moody, said: “Mitsubishi has laid down a gauntlet to the entire car industry with the Outlander PHEV by pricing it at the same level as the diesel. The result is huge tax savings for company car drives and realistic running costs for fleets. On top of that, it’s a really nice car to drive and works very well in EV mode.”

Lance Bradley, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors UK, said; “The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is very different to other hybrids in the market and we are delighted that it has won the Fleet World Honours ‘Environment Award’. The Outlander PHEV has already generated a lot of interest from fleet operators and Leasing Companies – it’s exciting to be at the forefront of a new era in the automotive industry.”
