This is the all-electric Renault Twin’Z concept that previews the look – and drivetrain – of the next Renault Twingo.
The Renault Twin’Z Concept, created in collaboration with British designer Ross Lovegrove, is an electric supermini which powered by a rear-mounted 67hp (50kW / 68PS) electric motor.
Power comes from four lithium-ion battery packs spaced under the floor and driving the rear wheels through a single speed transmission. To reduce weight and increase the driving range, the Renault Twin’Z concept uses carbon fiber bodywork.
The Renault Twin’Z concept is 3623 mm long, 1705 mm wide, 1506 mm tall, wheelbase at 2495 mm, has a top speed of 81 km/h (50 mph), range of 160 km (100 miles) and a kerb weight of just 980 kgs.
The Twin’Z Concept is coming with suicide doors, with interior lights following the contours of the cabin, with seats wrapped in water proof and fire-retardant material, an infotainment system from a tablet mounted in the middle of the dashboard.
Like most concept cars, don’t expect to see a lot of these features on the next Twingo. But some of the design elements will be transferred over. The final production version of the Renault Twingo, which could be based on the Twin-Z Concept, will rival the Fiat 500 and MINI.
