Volkswagen has unveiled the E-Lavida concept, an electric version of its Chinese-market Lavida sedan which is based on the global Golf.
The E-Lavida is Volkswagen’s first car to be totally designed and produced in China and could be in production by 2013.
Volkswagen did not release any technical details about the electric vehicle. However, from what we can see in the pictures, the E-Lavida will use an electric motor mounted in the location of the traditional internal combustion unit and a battery pack that is located at the rear of the vehicle.
“China is one of the most important auto markets in the company’s global strategy,” said Martin Winterkorn chairman of Volkswagen.
“Success in China has a significant meaning for Volkswagen in achieving its electric car strategy worldwide,” he added.[wzslider height=”400″ lightbox=”true”]
