NewMotion converts charge points in North Somerset to its charge network following contract win

NewMotion, Europe’s leading charge point provider for electric vehicles has won a contract with electric vehicle charge point installers, Elmtronics and North Somerset council to convert existing charge points onto their charge network.

NewMotion has converted the majority of its existing Public and Business use charge points in North Somerset, previously operated by Charge Your Car, and incorporated them into its charge network of over 30,000 cloud connected smart charge points. Having the charge points operated by NewMotion means EV drivers in the county can now charge up their vehicles without the need for any monthly or annual subscriptions. Instead, only a fair transaction fee of 35p is charged per successful charge.

With its UK office in London, NewMotion is a pioneering electric vehicle charging company that has 90,000 users throughout Europe. The conversion from the old provider has been carried out by its new partner Elmtronics, who have a long-standing track record of supplying and installing EV charging in the UK.

Carl Nicholson, Fleet Manager at North Somerset County Council said, “We are really excited to be working with partners, Elmtronics and NewMotion as they have a great track record of offering a stable and reliable charge point network with a quality service to customers. By connecting our chargers to NewMotion’s cloud platform, we now have a state of the art system at a lower cost helping to reduce administration and resources, enabling the council to continue our fight to reduce pollution in North Somerset and aid us in our bid to run one of the greenest Fleet of Vehicles in the UK.

“North Somerset Council already run the UK’s largest Public Sector fleet of EV’s Building on the successful deployment of 30 EV’s in 18 months, the council has committed to converting 75% of its entire light passenger and commercial fleet to Electric by 2020, requiring a versatile and dependable network of chargers. These have been provided by Elmtronics who have enabled us to rapidly deploy a network at Key sites across the district. Where possible we wish to encourage others to join the EV revolution, so having the ability to share access in a cost effective and sustainable manner with the public was essential.

Sander van der Veen, UK Country Manager, NewMotion, said, “We are delighted to have been selected to work with Elmtronics and North Somerset Council. We trust that North Somerset’s experience with our service is the start of a much larger movement.”

“NewMotion advocates open networks with fair tariffs that enable drivers to charge at any public charger, no matter what charge card they have. We therefore always invite competing network operators to discuss setting up agreements to facilitate this.”
