Mercedes-Benz and Momenta Develop Next-Generation Intelligent Driver Assistance System. Launching first in the new all-electric CLA this autumn, and expansion to more models to follow.

Mercedes-Benz and Momenta announced the upcoming launch of a jointly developed intelligent driver assistance system based on Momenta’s Flywheel Big Model.

The new system will debut this fall on the locally produced all-new electric CLA and will deliver driver assistance across highways, urban streets, and parking – from one parking space to another. In the future, the system will be equipped on more and more Mercedes-Benz models, continuously supporting the strategy of Mercedes-Benz’s assisted intelligent driving.

Mercedes-Benz has long been a pioneer in intelligent driving, becoming the first international automaker to invest in Momenta back in 2017. After years of strategic cooperation, the two companies’ teams have worked closely to co-develop this new driver assistance system. Designed specifically for China’s complex traffic and road conditions and jointly optimized by Chinese and German engineering teams, the system combines the standard of Mercedes-Benz driving dynamics with Momenta’s end-to-end AI model technology – resulting in a solution tailored to Chinese customers.

Drummond Jacoy, Senior Executive Vice President of Mercedes-Benz Group China Ltd., and Head of Mercedes-Benz China Research, Development and Procurement, said:
“With ‘Mercedes-Benz Standards’, we continuously strengthen our in-house R&D capabilities and proactively expand in-depth cooperation with leading Chinese technology enterprises. We aim to turn cutting-edge technologies into products that fulfill the needs of Chinese customers. The new all-electric CLA is the latest example. Leveraging Momenta’s technological advantages in intelligent assisted driving, beginning with the all-new CLA, we will deliver to customers a safe and user-friendly, more intelligent driving experience.”

Xudong Cao, CEO of Momenta, said:
“Mercedes-Benz is the benchmark for luxury in the automotive industry. With the ‘Mercedes-Benz Standard’, we are integrating Mercedes-Benz’s century of engineering excellence with Momenta’s cutting-edge AI technology. The new intelligent driver assistance system on the all-new electric CLA is a testament to this deepened cooperation. Powered by Momenta’s reinforcement learning-based Flywheel Model, the system continuously evolves through data-driven intelligence to provide users with a safe, reassuring, and premium mobility experience.”

As the hallmark of German luxury, Mercedes-Benz has set the “Mercedes-Benz Standard” through meticulous engineering and uncompromising safety. All training data is drawn from Chinese roads and enriched with extensive inputs from experienced drivers, ensuring it meets the needs of Chinese customers. Testing has adhered to Mercedes-Benz strictest standards, combining large-scale road trials and advanced simulation with multi-level, cross-department validation across R&D, integration, product development, and quality assurance. Hundreds of vehicles have been tested across high-traffic routes, complex environments, and challenging scenarios in major Chinese cities. In parallel, state-of-the-art simulation platforms run continuously 24/7, covering hundreds of millions of kilometers and replaying real-world data, including extreme weather such as fog and heavy rain, as well as sudden and complex traffic events, to ensure system reliability.

Momenta was the first in industry to bring end-to-end driver assistance into mass production. For the all-new electric CLA, engineers have repeatedly fine-tuned the coordination of the powertrain, chassis, and driver assistance system to achieve a benchmark-level human-machine co-driving experience. By combining Mercedes-Benz’s innovation with Momenta’s leading technology and proven production expertise, the development-to-production cycle has been significantly shortened – highlighting the successful fusion of the “Mercedes-Benz Standard” with pioneering innovation from China.
