Hyundai IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 sweep AJAC’s Green Vehicle awards. The IONIQ 6 was named the “2023 Canadian Green Car of the Year”, while the IONIQ 5 was awarded “2023 Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year” from AJAC.

Hyundai Auto Canada has won two new awards from the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC). The IONIQ 6 and IONIQ 5 were crowned 2023 Canadian Car of the Year and Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year, respectively.

These awards are the result of AJAC journalists spending hundreds of hours behind the wheel of a wide variety of fuel-efficient and electric vehicles on Canadian roads. The vehicles were evaluated while considering the numerous realities specific to the Canadian market.

“I want to sincerely thank the members of AJAC for once again recognizing the high quality of our products,” says Don Romano, president and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada. “With our IONIQ models, Hyundai is committed to maintaining a leadership position in the transition towards an all-electric future. We are pleased with the enthusiasm and validation from accredited automotive journalists for IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6, and look forward to sharing this great news with our customers and dealers across Canada.”

The Green Vehicle of the Year awards were presented during the opening ceremonies of EcoRun, an annual event organized by AJAC that shows off a variety of eco-friendly vehicles in order to inform consumers of all the powertrain options and vehicles available in-market.

“Congratulations to Hyundai on its impressive double success! In light of the accolades the IONIQ family is garnering while all automakers are working hard on electrification, we have to admit that the Hyundai recipe has ingredients that appeal to many, including the AJAC specialists”, said Michel Crépault, AJAC president.

This double victory comes only a few months after the IONIQ 5 was awarded AJAC’s Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year in February, and now adds to the long list of accolades for Hyundai’s fully-electric utility vehicle. On the international scene, IONIQ 5 has been crowned World Car of the Year, World Electric Car of the Year and World Design of the Year in 2022. One year later, the IONIQ 6 won these same three awards, which are among the most prestigious in the automotive world.
