Volkswagen ID. Buzz crowned Best Electric Car at Marie Claire Sustainability Awards 2022

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ ID. Buzz was named Best Electric Car at the Marie Claire Sustainability Awards 2022.

The prestigious Marie Claire Sustainability Awards celebrate organisations who go above-and-beyond with sustainable practices, as well as products which contribute to making the world a more sustainable place.

“Second-life plans for the ID. Buzz, combined with fantastic design, prove that electric vehicles with built-in sustainable futures don’t have to be the hair-shirt option,” says Marie Claire’s Sustainability Awards judge and Auto Trader editorial director, Erin Baker. “Bi-directional integrated charging also gets a big tick from us”.

“A leap ahead of its competitors and competitively priced, with a plethora of storage configurations for every purpose, it makes zero-emission vehicle replacement a reality for commercial fleets,” adds Dave Coleman, Sustainability Awards judge and managing director of the Carbon Literacy Project.

Jess Mainard, ID. Buzz Product Manager at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: “We are delighted to receive this prestigious accolade from Marie Claire. Our ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo are game-changing models for us, paving the way for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ electrification journey. Everything from the design, to manufacturing, to the on-road performance has considered sustainability from the offset, enabling us to produce a product which is comfortable and convenient for our customers, whilst also contributing to a reduced C0₂ footprint”.

Built on Volkswagen’s electric-first Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB), the ID. Buzz is Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ first all-electric model, providing customers with the ability to travel in a stylish, zero-emission vehicle. Charging capabilities of the vehicle enable the battery to be charged from 5% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes, via 170kW DC rapid-charging station (direct current).

In this vehicle, charging is designed to be a simple and useful part of the customer ecosystem. Plug & Charge functionality allows authentication, charging and billing to take place automatically when the ID. Buzz is plugged into a compatible charging station. Furthermore, the ID. Buzz is bi-directional (Vehicle-to-Home) charging ready.

The ID. Buzz interior features leather-free and synthetic materials created from recycled products, including fabric made of SEAQUAL yarn – made up of ocean plastics and recycled PET bottles, whilst the underbody tray is also made of 99% recycled materials.
