Electrify America Brings Ultra-Fast EV Charging Stations to Meijer Stores in Illinois, Michigan

Electrify America is collaborating with Midwestern retailer Meijer to install EV charging stations at nine of its stores across Illinois and Michigan. The stations will offer a total of 36 ultra-fast public EV chargers, increasing the availability of public charging options in the greater Chicago area and throughout the state of Michigan.

The collaboration is part of Electrify America’s commitment to provide convenient and accessible charging experiences for EV drivers. With a station in Bloomingdale, Illinois, already open, the network plans to have all locations available for use by early 2021.

“Meijer supercenters are known for being convenient ‘one-stop’ shops for everything from groceries to apparel,” said Anthony Lambkin, senior director of operations at Electrify America. “By offering electric vehicle charging stations on-site, we are providing another amenity for customers who can charge their electric vehicles with our ultra-fast chargers while they shop.”

Meijer customers will be able to take advantage of the fastest charging technology available, as Electrify America chargers range in power from 150 kilowatt (kW) to 350kW, depending on the location. An EV capable of accepting a 350kW charge can add about 20 miles of range per minute of charging, making it more efficient than ever for customers to charge up while shopping at a Meijer store.

“Offering access to electric vehicle charging stations is another way we’re making shopping more convenient for our customers in communities across the Midwest,” said Vik Srinivasan, senior vice president of properties and real estate for Meijer. “The opportunity to fully charge your vehicle while shopping is something electric vehicle owners appreciate, so we are pleased to collaborate with Electrify America on our shared goal of achieving a more sustainable future.”

Planned Electrify America charging locations at Meijer stores include the following:

Now Open at Meijer Stores:

  • Illinois:
    • 130 S. Gary Ave., Bloomingdale, Ill. 60108

Coming Soon to Meijer Stores:

    • 808 Illinois Route 59, Aurora, Ill. 60504
    • 9200 S. Western Ave., Evergreen Park, Ill. 60805
  • Michigan:
    • 30800 Little Mack Ave., Roseville, Mich. 48066
    • 3565 Fairlane Circle, Allen Park, Mich. 48101
    • 2980 Wilder Road, Bay City, Mich. 48706
    • 8605 34 Road, Cadillac, Mich. 49601
    • 250 Meijer Drive, Gaylord, Mich. 49735

To date, Electrify America has 480 charging stations with over 2,100 DC fast chargers, and another 100+ sites in development. By the end of 2021, Electrify America plans to install or have under development approximately 800 total charging stations with about 3,500 DC fast chargers.
