Leading battery manufacturer Panasonic Energy has secured agreement with Mazda to supply cylindrical lithium-ion batteries for its upcoming electric vehicles.
In June 2023, the two companies commenced discussions aimed at building a medium- to long-term partnership for the supply of cylindrical automotive lithium-ion batteries, discussions which have now resulted in the signing of this agreement.
Mazda and Panasonic Energy said in a joint statement they will disclose at an appropriate time details of the partnership for the supply of cylindrical automotive lithium-ion batteries.
The Panasonic Group and Mazda have built a good relationship over many years. Mazda had installed Panasonic batteries in its Demio EV, which the company had leased in Japan since 2012.
The deal with Mazda is Panasonic’s second this month. It announced a similar agreement with Subaru on March 19.
