Mercedes-Benz eCitaro now on the road in Tübingen

A highly challenging topography with inclines of up to 17.5 percent and a high degree of utilisation – regular bus service operations in the University town of Tübingen must withstand extreme demands. Not every city bus is capable of that, especially not those that are electrically driven.

The Mercedes-Benz eCitaro is though; that is why, after extensive tests, Stadtwerke Tübingen , the public utilities company, has chosen the all-electric low-floor bus bearing the star. Today it completed its first official trip in Tübingen as so called “TüBus”.

Ulrich Bastert, Head of Marketing, Sales and Customer Services at Daimler Buses: “Due to its outstanding features, the new eCitaro has won through in no time. We are delighted that our electric city bus will now be on the road in Tübingen.” Those on-board included Mayor Boris Palmer, Ortwin Wiebecke, managing director at Stadtwerke Tübingen (public utilities company), and Hans Zeutschel, department head of local public transport at Stadtwerke Tübingen.

The eCitaro for Tübingen has been comprehensively equipped: high-voltage batteries with a total capacity of 292 kWh ensure the necessary range. The passengers benefit from the friendly and comfortably equipped passenger compartment with Inter Star Eco seats or upholstered leaning areas on the side wall.

Thanks to the active braking assistance system Preventive Brake Assist and the turning assistance system Sideguard Assist, the safety equipment in Tübingen’s eCitaro is also of an exemplary standard.
