First Volkswagen XL1 Delivered to a Customer from Berlin

first-Volkswagen-XL1Volkswagen has delivered the first XL1 to a customer from Berlin during an event held at the Transparent Factory in Dresden, Germany, where the innovative diesel plug-in hybrid is made.

Dr. Christian Malorny took over his Volkswagen XL1 by Thomas Zahn, Director of Sales and Marketing Germany Volkswagen Passenger Cars Dr. The first XL1 was delivered in the exterior color Oryxweiß pearl effect with titan black and pearl gray interior.

With an average fuel consumption of 0.9 l / 100 km (261 mpg US or 282 mpg US), the Volkswagen XL1 is the most economical series-production car in the world. Thanks to its plug-in hybrid system, the two-seater can be driven purely electrically, and thus free of local emissions over a distance of up to 50 kilometers (31 miles).

From design layout to follow the XL1 as automotive protagonist of the pure sports car theory: minimum weight of CFRP monocoque and outer skin (795 kg), perfect aerodynamics (Cd 0.189) and extremely low center of gravity (1.153 mm height).

The XL1 is 153.1 inches long, 65.6 inches wide, and just 45.4 inches tall. By comparison, a Volkswagen Polo is slightly longer (156.3 in) and wider (66.2 in), but is significantly taller (57.6 in). Even a purebred sports car like today’s Porsche Boxster is 5.1 inches taller. Just 250 XL1s will be produced at the Volkswagen’s factory in Germany, priced at approximately $145,000.
