Nissan Motor Co. today said that the pre-orders of Nissan LEAF electric car have reached 3,754 units in three weeks – more than half its 6,000-unit target for the entire year.
Nissan would sell its LEAF electric car starting at $40,640 (3.76 million yen) in Japan, counting on government subsidies to slash the cost to consumers for its mass-market bet on the electric car.
The 3,754 pre-orders received in Japan are mainly from individual customers (64 percent). Most of the people who want a LEAF are aged above 40 (24% above 40, 26/% above 50 and 35% above 60 years). Only 2 percent of the ones who ordered a LEAF are aged 20.
Japan’s third biggest automaker opened the pre-order process in its domestic market on 1 April.
